What does HSPA mean for you?

October 19, 2009

HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) is the latest and greatest in cellular radio technology, it will allow you to browse the web and download up to 21 mbps. So in other words it is REALLY FAST, much quicker than Bells current CDMA EVDO network. That’s fine and good but how is the coverage? Bell’s EVDO covers about 93% of Canada and the new HSPA network will overlay on that one, so 93% coverage across Canada!! Rogers has only 75% of Canada covered. So we know the new network is fast and has the same great coverage what other advantages does this bring to Bell customers? The phones!! Like the  Apple iPhone and I am sure other top end phones will be announced as well giving us customers a lot more choice, add that with the ability to roam globally and we have a BIG win for Bell and ABC Cellular. Stay Tuned for more info as we get closer to the launch.

The Apple iPhone

October 19, 2009

photos-software-messages-20090608Who hasn’t heard of the Apple iPhone? It is the most known cellular device since the famed Motorola RAZR, but for different reasons. It revolutionized the way we browse the web, play music or even watch YouTube on the go. Even viewing pictures on the iPhone is a treat, just ”pinch” to zoom in or out, just amazing!  And now with over 75,000 apps and counting in the iTunes App Store it can make this device so unique to whoever picks it up and uses it. The best part? Its coming to Bell’s new HSPA network in November.  Go to the “Shop” section of this site and pre-order one. If you can’t do the online thing come down to the store and talk with the very knowledgeable staff here at ABC Cellular at one of our two locations.

The Best in HD Programming

September 2, 2009

In the world of HDTV Programing there is lots of choices, but really in my books there is only one. That’s Bell’s ExpressVu. If you own a new flat panel television and you want to make the most of it, get ExperssVu.  Here are a few reasons why Bell is the best.

  • More than 85 HD channels,  And 41 of them available at no extra cost, more programing than ANY HD provider in Canada.
  • Prices start at $23/month
  • HDMI Full HD  1080p connections on the receiver boxes.

When it comes down to it Bell has the most HD channels and the best hardware, take advantage of your new HDTV. I know I couldn’t live with out the PVR function its so convenient and I never miss out on my favorite TV shows.Do you want the best picture out of your new HDTV TV?  Of Course you do, make the switch you won’t regret it.

What is a turbo Stick?

August 20, 2009

Well what exactly is a turbo stick you ask. A turbo stick will give you access to Bell Mobility’s 3G high speed network when your on the go. It looks just like a usb flash drive, It works by just plugging it into a free USB port on your computer or laptop. Just imagine driving cross country and not having to worry about looking for wi-fi hot spots, when your always connected. It will give you speeds pretty close to what you get at home on a wired connection, plus full access to all your favorite sites. So if you need to be connected for business or pleasure pick up Bell’s Turbo Stick. Pricing right now on a 3 year term is 0.00, so its not a better time to pick one up.

So many?

August 8, 2009

There is a lot of choices in phones right now with more technologies then most can imagine. Its divided down into two different categories ”Smartphones” and “Regular Phones”, each have their pros and cons. Within these categories there are many types of phones in which you can choose.

Smartphones for example would be something from Blackberry, Samsung or HTC. These types of phones are for someone who needs a fully featured mini computing experience in their pocket. If you stay connected with e-mail and social networking like Facebook and Twitter, smartphones have full blown built-in applications.  Many different types of application and games can be added to your device to make it more personalized.  Browsing the web and flicking though pages of your favorite sites with your finger is just fun. Within smartphones each company brings their own user interface experience, choose the one that work best for your needs. Smartphones sometimes require a little more getting used to if you used a regular style phones. Come down to a store and get hands on and make sure the device your going to get is right for you.

Regular phones or non-smartphones are common types like the famous Motorola RAZR and the LG Chocolate, these phones operate much more basic than any smartphone. You can still social network with Twitter and Facebook but the experience is less fully featured. These phones have came along way in the past few years, some have QWERTY keyboards some have great cameras. Some phones are better for texting and some for playing music. These phones don’t use full web browsers so looking at your favorite sites can be difficult. Bottom line is you can’t get the whole package in a standard phone, but as a starter phone or a phone for someone who doesn’t need all the bells and whistles they can’t be beat. Any standard phone will cost a little bit cheaper per month than a smartphone.

The choice is yours, but what ever you do choose I am sure it will suite your needs.

Over my next few posts I will go over some phone technologies to hopefully help narrow down some choices in your decisions. Phone technologies like smartphones and regular phones, to see which is better for what type of applications. I will be checking out some really cool software for smartphones that will help you be more productive and  also have a little fun too. :)
